- There is a difference between the number of colors, and an AGA chipset.
- The AGA chipset has specific screen capabilities which are default. You
- can extend these features by adding a gfx-board. However, if your programs
- will use these added features depends on the drivers which are available
- for the gfx-boards.
-
- So, if a program is directly bangin' the hardware, and requires AGA. Then
- the program will only run on an Amiga equiped with an AGA chipset. Adding
- a gfx-board will make no difference.
-
- Luckly, most modern programs (excluding most of the games), are written to
- leave the hardware for what it is, and will only use library-calls to
- adjust screensizes and the number of colors. These calls can be rerouted
- by the gfx-boards driver software, giving you the possibility to watch 24
- bit gfx on an ECS Amiga.
-
- And most other programs can be forced to use other colors and screensizes
- by using a screenpromotor.
-
- If you exclude the games, than most programs will work and use more colors
- and other screensizes when u buy a gfx-board.
-
- But I have understood that the WorkBench screen is a little bit harder to
- enhance.
-
- I have no idea what gfx-board would be the best for u. I like the CyberGfx
- board the most. Mainly becose Phase 5 is planning PPC compatible software
- for the CyberGfx boards....

-
- If you buy a Pentium or not, depends on what you wanna do with the
- computer. But buying a gfx-boards is a lot cheaper than buying a Pentium
- PC...
